PSALM 139
In The Womb (PART 1)

© SONG BY SAMUEL DAVID HUISMAN, HIGHWAY TO ZION
RELEASED 12-JUN-2026

O Lord
You have searched me
And known me
You know when I sit down
And when I rise
You discern my thoughts
From far off

You encompass my paths
And my lying down
You know and nurture all my ways
For there is not a word on my tongue
Behold O Lord
You know all

Where shall I go from your Spirit
Or where from your presence can I flee
If I ascend to heaven you are there
If I make my bed in Sheol you are there

You discern my thoughts from afar
You are acquainted with all my ways
Even before a word is on my tongue
For you formed my inward parts
You knitted me together
In the womb of my mother
In the womb of my mother
In the womb of my mother

If I take the wings of the morning
And dwell in the reaches of the sea
Even there your hand shall lead me
And your right hand
Shall hold me

You hem me about behind and before
And lay your hand upon me
So secret and wonderous
So unattainable
And far above me
Is such knowledge and skill

Where shall I go from your Spirit
Or where from your presence can I flee
If I ascend to heaven you are there
If I make my bed in Sheol you are there

You discern my thoughts from afar
You are acquainted with all my ways
Even before a word is on my tongue
For you formed my inward parts
You knitted me together
In the womb of my mother
In the womb of my mother
In the womb of my mother

If I say “Surely the darkness shall cover me
Even the night shall be light about me”
For the darkness cannot hide from you

But the night shines as the day
For darkness is as light with you
For you formed my inward parts
And you knitted me together
In my mother's womb
O LORD you know me
O LORD you know me

Where shall I go from your Spirit
Or where from your presence can I flee
If I ascend to heaven you are there
If I make my bed in Sheol you are there

You discern my thoughts from afar
You are acquainted with all my ways
Even before a word is on my tongue
For you formed my inward parts
You knitted me together
In the womb of my mother
In the womb of my mother
And you know me
In the womb
In the womb

SUMMARY

Faithful and accurate biblical translation is required for each and every song produced by Highway To Zion.

As believers we often have our guard up with the content of christian music. So many unbiblical and distorted biblical lyrics and ideas have crept into popular christian music. When we call a Psalm, a Psalm, it is the entire Psalm, every verse, every word (as close as is possible in the English) No bizarre interpretations or political angles. Simply the songs and the verses the LORD has put into his word. No difficult and hard to hear parts removed to keep these songs politically correct, or easy to hear. Rather scriptural songs that glorify God.

Complete with the unobscured passion and emotion of the LORD as he intended, with his power on display in his songs. His majesty, glory, sorrow, tenderness, compassion, judgment, love and wrath all on display.

The main resources used in the writing of this song are listed below, so that like our Berean brothers and sisters you can diligently check if indeed these songs are scriptural. ‘…they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.’ (Acts 17:11)

HEBREW INTERLINEAR TEXT FOR PSALM

The underlying text used to write these songs is the Hebrew Masoretic text (The same text used for most bible translations including the KJV, ESV etc.), which predominantly follows the Aleppo Codex’s structure. The text is coupled with the Berean Literal Bible, so readers can compare the Hebrew with a direct and literal, word for word English translation.

By clicking the numbers at the top of each Hebrew word, you will be able to see how translations use the word, the definitions of each word, the root of that word, and the expositional history of each individual word.

Do not take these songs at face value, but study Gods word for yourself to verify the truth of what you have heard. (‘…if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.’ Prov 2:3-5)

NUMERICAL STRUCTURE OF PSALM

The books of the bible and their scriptures are originally written in Koine Greek and Ancient Hebrew (with some select passages in other languages), both distinct from their modern forms in much the same way that modern English differs greatly from the English language of 800 years ago.

Both ancient Greek and ancient Hebrew have a unique property that only these two languages share. Each letter of their respective alphabets has a numerical value.

Unlike English that utilizes separate numerals from its alphabetic characters, ancient Greek and Hebrew use every letter of their alphabet. This is similar to Roman numerals from the Latin alphabet, however only some characters of their alphabet were/are used. What this means is that every chapter, every verse and every word in the bible has a numerical value. This is no doubt by design and is actually exhibited in scripture several times. The most famous example where this process is to be used is recorded in Revelation 13, however other examples exist as numbers simply recorded, such as 2 Kings 25:13-17 and equations for Pi and e imbedded in Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1 respectively.

This use of letters is called Gematria, from geometria (Greek), from which our word geometry is derived today. Many occult forms and twisted uses of this are present today. However the underlying numbers are a built in, innate characteristic of the word of God. Only this most basic biblical form is of concern here. Below is a link to view this songs bible chapter and its numerical breakdown. Psalm 139, a psalm written by King David. This psalm glorifies the LORD and highlights his omniscience, omnipresence and omnipotence, things that are impossible for us to understand or to grasp, as admitted to by King David. We have no ability to know what God knows, or how he has done anything, especially how he has made us.

He made us, in his image, as his children. Family that he has chosen and carefully created, personally, intimately and tenderly. He loves us, cares for us, and brought us into existence as he tells us in this psalm.

He thought-up and designed every little detail about you. Things you don’t know about yourself, things your parents don’t know about you. He knows and created everything about you. He loves you.

We are told in this psalm that he knitted us together in the womb, that he formed our inward parts. The word used in the Hebrew for inward parts is כִּלְיָה (kidney, also mind figuratively) meaning he knows us inside, our mind and our body. He formed us, who we are, not the brain, but the mind. That part of you that makes you who you truly are.

We are told he does this in the womb. Before your mother knew you, God knew you, knowing even your thoughts in the womb as we are told. The word used for know, is the most intimate form of the word know יָדַע,  (yada) which is used of husband and wife, it means that God did not just know David, but had the closest relationship and knowledge of him that can be had. No one has loved you so deeply and so completely as the LORD since before you were born until today.

The LORD bless you.

Below is an in depth bible study on the Psalm used in this song. It covers Psalms 135-144 by Dr. Chuck Missler, a bible teacher from Calvary Chapel and Koinonia House.  I hope you are blessed by this study should you make time to investigate the word and this Psalm further.
